Harvey Franklin Chandler, 84, died peacefully on October 13, 2013, surrounded by his family. No one's warmth and humor could fill up a room like Frank's; his help and generosity showered family and friends alike; his love and mastery of the game of golf allowed him the chance to enjoy the outdoors and his many "buddies;" his adoration of his church led him to become an integral, active part of a wonderful congregation. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harvey and Edna Graham Chandler, his brother, Henry Graham Chandler, and his sister, Ann Chandler Leath. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Betsy Matthews Chandler, his three girls - Candy Chandler Dahl and her husband David of Raleigh, Jane Chandler Camper and her husband Bo, and Gale Chandler, all of Johnson City, TN - and his beloved grandchildren Big Daddy's pride and joy - Matthew Chandler Dahl and his wife Sarah, and Emily Dahl McLoughlin and her husband Tim, all of Raleigh. Frank always said he never had a job he didn't love. He worked for Duke Power Company, Emerson Electric Company, TPI Corporation as Vice President in Charge of National Sales, and Chandler/Whiting and Associates. In his later years, he owned two companies of his own, Chandler Sales and Associates and the Gorin's Ice Cream franchise for North and South Carolina. After retirement, Frank worked part time in Burlington's YMCA and Lowe's Funeral Home. Frank's specialty was making everyone in his life feel loved. His big-hearted ways and infectious laugh, his great stories and jokes, will be sorely missed by his family and the many, many friends he leaves behind, but endless and wonderful memories of Frank will live in our hearts forever. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Union Ridge Church, 115 Altamahaw/Union Ridge Road, Burlington, NC officiating Rev. Dan Ficklin. The body will lie in state in the sanctuary from 12:45 to 1:45, and the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall during this time. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the fellowship hall. Arrangements by Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Union Ridge Church and Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or visit www.haulinforhospice.com.
