Harriet Houston Sowinski, born on March 6, 1956, in Alamance County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work and devotion to her family, enriched by a career and experiences that brought joy to her life.
A proud graduate of Appalachian State University, Harriet earned a degree in education, which she pursued with passion throughout her professional journey. She took great pride in her work and found fulfillment in the relationships she built with her work family. Harriet was a true embodiment of commitment and compassion in her professional environment.
Harriet was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Alan Sowinski, and a nurturing mother to her only son, Houston Lane Sowinski. Her love for her family was boundless. She cherished her time spent with them, nurturing bonds that will forever remain strong. Harriet also enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, where she often found solace alongside her husband.
She attended First Christian Church in Burlington, where her faith played an important role in her life and provided her with a supportive community. Harriet’s warmth and kindness will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her immediate family, Harriet is survived by her sister, Cathy McGuyer, and her husband Anthony, who will greatly miss her presence. She is preceded in death by her father, Harry Houston Jolly; her mother, Dorothy Swanson Jolly; and her sister, Deloris Swanson.
A graveside service honoring Harriet’s life will be held on December 19, 2024, at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, North Carolina, beginning at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Authocare Hospice, Burlington, NC.
Harriet Houston Sowinski will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, whose lives she touched profoundly.
