Harold Cole

Harold Stuart Cole, 86, of Haw River went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Hospice Home. He was born in Alamance County to the late Luther Edward Cole and Grace Stuart Cole and was married to his wife of 62 years, Doris King Cole. Harold's first job was alongside his father at Cole's Grocery in Haw River. He was a charter member of the Haw River Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as long as he was physically able. Mr. Cole was also a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River where he faithfully sang in the choir and had served as a deacon. Harold retired from the Alamance County Sheriff's Office after 20 years of service as a deputy and bailiff. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII earning two Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy C. and Rev. Rick Webster of Mebane, Vickie C. and Neil Roberts of Burlington; son and daughter-in-law, Larry H. and Phoebe Cole of Mebane; grandchildren, Chris Cole of Las Vegas, Danny and Lori Webster of Burlington, Joshua Roberts and Hannah Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wayne Cole and sister-in-law, Annie Cole. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church of Haw River by Rev. Walter Jones and son-in-law, Rev. Rick Webster with interment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. Funeral honors will be provided by the Alamance County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard. Current and retired members of the Sheriff's Office and the Haw River Volunteer Fire Dept. are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4-6 Saturday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
