Harley Watkins

Harley Wade Watkins, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Waldo Harley and Miriam Jones Watkins, and was the husband of 61 years to Betty Louise Watkins.

Harley retired after many years as plant supervisor at numerous textile mills, including Glen Raven and then worked for Carolina Biological.  He was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church and served as a Deacon there for some time.  Harley was an outstanding athlete and was even voted best athlete and best looking in high school.  In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and most importantly spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; Betty Louise Hicks Watkins, son; Timothy Wade Watkins and wife Valerie, daughter; Marsha Kay Hall and husband, Rodney, grandchildren; Nicki Brown, Tiffany Garrison, Billy Watkins, Jr., Stephanie Nieman, Travis Hall, Derek Hall, Lindsay Thompson, Tyler Watkins, Kayla Watkins and Ceira Watkins, as well as eleven great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Billy Waldo Watkins, great grandson; Dakota Hall and brother; Douglas Jones Watkins.  The family would like to say a special thanks to Teresa Hicks for her love and support throughout the years.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 11:00am in the Mausoleum Chapel at Alamance Memorial Park by Dr. Freddy Powell with the committal to follow in the Mausoleum as well.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to Cancer research.
