Graham-Hal “Red” Merritt Stewart, 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at VA Medical Center in Durham surrounded by his family. He was born in Alamance County to the late John Wesley and Edna Merritt Stewart. He was the husband of 56 years to Judy Buntin Stewart who survives.
Red was employed for many years at Annedeen. He was a US Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed fishing, mowing his yard and helping his neighbors. He was a loving and devoted husband, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Buntin Stewart of the home; sons, Gene Stewart and wife, Catherine and Rodney Stewart and wife, Pattie all of Burlington; daughter, Angel Walker and husband, Junior of Snow Camp; grandchildren, Jacob and Logan Stewart, Megan and Jade Stewart, Dalton and Halie Walker; great grandchildren, Allysa Bradsher, Rilynn Brown, one on the way, Hal Gunner Walker; sister, Carolyn McAdams of Randleman and his fur baby, “Co Co”. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John Stewart, Jr., Charlie, Calvin and Daniel Stewart; sister, Shelba Ward.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 4-6pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory with military honors at 4pm provided by the US Navy.
