Hal Vernon Lassiter, age 76, of 1975 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Rd. passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his home. A native of Alamance County, he was born February 1, 1935 to the late Alfred David and Swanna Luvenia King Lassiter and is the husband of Margarette Olevia Ross Lassiter who survives. For most of his career, Hal was employed by Burlington Industries in Burlington, Durham and South Hill, VA and later retired from Culp Weaving in Graham. He attended Bethlehem Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Olevia Ross Lassiter of the home; daughters, Sherrie Lynne L. Petty and husband Dennis Keith Petty, Sheila Gwynne L. Walker and husband Hugh Lee Walker, all of Burlington and Susan Denise L. Moore and husband Donald Keith Moore of Elon; grandchildren: Laura Ashley Moore Nance of Elon, Travis Keith Moore of Elon and his fiance Lacey Brantley of Burlington; great grandson, Aden Tyler Nance of Elon; step grandchildren, Tabitha Dawn Walker and friend Jody Edward Cheek of Graham, Benjamin Adam Walker and wife Jessica Danielle Sawyer Walker of McLeansville; step great granddaughter, Riley Grace Walker of McLeansville; brothers, Alfred David Lassiter, Jr. and friend Irene Jefferies Walker, Currie Lee Lassiter and wife Bessie Mae Saunders Lassiter, and Hulon Albert Lassiter, all of Burlington; sisters, Betty Lou L. Cranford of Burlington and Carolyn Jean L. Greer and husband Owen Greer of Summerville, SC; sisters-in-law, Jane Yvonne Faulkner Lassiter of Graham, Burnice Louise R. Johnson and husband Donald "Johnnie" Norris Johnson, Mary Jane R. Freeman and husband Charles Vernon Freeman and Linda Carol R. Davis and husband Robert Wayne Davis all of Burlington; brothers-in-law, Jerry Arthur Ross and friend Brenda Summers and Gary Richard Ross and wife Shirley Ann Wyrick Ross all of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Keith Randall Lassiter; sisters, Ellen Christine L. Rudd, Mattie Mae L. Self, Mary Elizabeth L. Bowman, Sarah Jean Lassiter and Deloris Ann L. Porter and brother, John Edwin Lassiter, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Dave Gilbert, Rev. Matt Smith and Rev. George Phillips. Interment will follow in Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Lassiter will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9pm Thursday and other times, the residence. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Christian Church, Special Projects Fund or the Marvin Wallace Scholarship Fund; 3625 Altamahaw Church St., Elon, NC 27244.
