Guy Tilley

Guy Austin Tilley, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 17th at Alamance Regional Medical Center.  He was born September 5, 1930 in Surry County to the late Reece Bonson and Pearl Greenwood Tilley and was married to Betty Jean Zimmerman Tilley for sixty-eight years.  Guy served in the US Army during the Korean War playing baseball for the U.S.A.  He retired from A.T.&T. after thirty-six years of service. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where served in many roles including teaching the Joy class for over sixty years as well as the Eastern Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Gideons International.  He was an avid bee keeper. A Boy Scout leader and enjoyed playing blue grass music as a member of the Corn Pickers Group.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time at the beach and an avid Tar Heel fan.  He was always glad to see you and welcome you with a smile and a joke. His biggest joy was being a PaPa to Brandon.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jean Zimmerman Tilley; a daughter Patty (Stan) Brooks; a grandson, Brandon Clayton; a step grandson, Thomas (Marisa) Brooks; a sister, Opal (Paul) Walters and a brother Dana Tilley.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Fred Tilley.

The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church by Rev. Laura Dunlap and Mr. Kurt Ward.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and at other times at the home.
