Grace Massey Hill, one of the Lord’s biggest prayer warriors, quietly slipped into Heaven on August 9th , 2024. She waited to leave this world until both of her two precious girls were with her lovingly holding her hand and giving her encouragement to leave this world and go see Jesus, her Savior.
Grace was born in Caswell County on April 24, 1935, to the late Walter J. and Beulah Stadler Massey. She loved her parents dearly. She was the baby of the six children – Nina Simmons, Elmer Massey, Mack Massey, Raymond Massey and Alice Brooks – all deceased.
She was quite the athlete, winning a place on the North Carolina All State basketball team while attending Elon High School. She later studied at Elon College and became a legal secretary. Grace was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Elon and the Celestial Sunday School Class. On July 19, 1957, she married Charles E. Hill (Eb) and they lived a wonderful life, always together, always thankful to God for their family and the many blessings he gave them over the 54 years of marriage until Eb went to heaven in 2011. Thank you Lord, for the promise of a reunion in heaven!
Survivors include her two beloved daughters, who she always said God had given her two of the very best – Dr. Lisa Cooke (Dr. Raymond Cooke) and Leslie H. Horn (Duane Horn), her three grandchildren – Ashley Cooke Graves (Christian), Brooke H. Cauley (Nick) and Cody Horn (Dr. Morgan Horn), and her five great grandchildren – Jackson and Wyatt Graves, Kayleigh Cauley and Parker and Weston Horn. She had a major impact in the lives of her grandchildren through her loving care and biblical teachings. Grace said the great grandchildren brought her such joy during her later years – snapping green beans, laughing at craziness, and just the love they gave her. She also had one surviving sister-in-law – Jean Hill Meeks, two special long-time friends, Barbara Dawson and Pat Durham.
Grace also had a wonderful Sunday School Class that always loved and supported her. Grace loved the Lord and would spend hours praying for the people she loved. She was the prayer warrior for the Celestial Sunday School Class, always being asked to pray. When she started to pray over meals, family members knew it would be a long time before those wonderful smells actually got to go in their mouths! How the family wishes they could have just one more big meal together.
