Mr. Gordon Wesley Weaver, age 97, of Mebane, departed this earthy life on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Georgia, he was the son of the late Amon Young Weaver and the late Lilly Holebrook Weaver and was married for almost 38 years to Mrs. Charlotte Rutherford Weaver, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during WWII and retired from Associated Transport as a long distance driver. Mr. Weaver was instrumental in faithfully helping in the building of Temple Baptist Church, the fellowship building of Victory Baptist and was also greatly involved in the construction of the dorms at Deer Lake Christian Camp in Haw River. He and his wife, Charlotte, helped maintain the grounds and were faithful members at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church. After retirement, Gordon spent the next fifteen years in the mountains of Virginia where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Summit Baptist Church until he was 88 years old. He and his wife spent their time traveling in their motor-home and attending old fashioned Gospel Camp Meetings in Virginia, W. Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. He currently was a member at East Side Baptist Church in Mebane. Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Amon Weaver and James Weaver; two step sons, Andy V. Carver and Bill Wood; four grandsons; two step grandsons; three brothers; a sister; and a host of families in Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; four brothers; and a grandson. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, September 26, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Tommy Willis and Rev. Chuck Perkins. The family will receive friends from 5:30 6:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
