Gordon Phelps,Sr.

Mebane-Gordon "Dwight" Phelps, Sr., 68, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at ARMC surrounded by his family. He was born in Durham County to the late Gordon Elmo and Mae DeWitt Phelps.
Dwight was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed woodworking and Hunting in his spare time. Dwight was an avid Duke and Nascar fan. His family was important to him and he loved his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Melissa P. Yarbrough and husband, Jim of Milton, Chris P. Pettiford and husband, James of Brown Summit, Gordon Dwight "DJ" Phelps, Jr. and fiancé, Jenny of Monroe, Kyle Phelps of Greensboro and Mallory K. Brann and husband, Steven of Leasburg; grandchildren, Brandon, Jade, Aaron, Tyler and Cole; sisters, Sharon Butler and husband, Cecil of Burlington and a brother, Tony Phelps and wife, Sandra of Mebane; numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11am at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Ronnie Byrd. The service will conclude with military honors by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 9:30am until 8pm on Monday at the home. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home for public viewing from 8am until 5:00pm on Tuesday.
