Haw River-Glenn Pendergraph, 89 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Hospice Home. He was the husband of 66 years to Bettie Crawley Pendergraph who survives and the son of the late Wilson E. and Myrtle Tickle Pendergraph.
Glenn, along with 2 partners founded Central Builders in 1960. After the partners left the business, he continued to operate Central Builders as sole proprietor. He was a longtime member of Haw River United Methodist Church, the Men's Sunday School class and the Methodist Men. He also served as chairman of the Administrative Council. Glenn served on the local Board of First Union National Bank and was a founding Board Member of Alamance Christian School. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II serving on the USS Harold J. Ellison DD- 864 in the Atlantic Theatre. He was a member of the Baker-Ray American Legion Post # 427 in Haw River.
Through his life he used his skills in construction to touch many lives. He especially took joy in making an impact in the community with special projects to benefit those who needed it, such projects as Alamance Christian School, Allied Churches Homeless Shelter and Cummings High School Field House. May these projects stand as a memorial to how much he loved this community. Thank you to the many people who were a part of his life and work.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie C. Pendergraph of the home; daughter, Amie Pendergraph Perkins and husband, Gene of Haw River; sons, Darrell Pendergraph of Wilmington and John Pendergraph and wife, Deborah of Graham; 6 grandchildren, Caleb, and Abby Glenn Pendergraph, Bailey, Ethan, Declan and Emmery Perkins; son-in-law, John Thompson of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Pendergraph Thompson; parents; brothers, Elvis and Donald Pendergraph and a sister, Nelmer Bunn.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Haw River United Methodist Church by Rev. Jeanne Neal and assisted by Rev. Walter Jones. The burial will follow at Haw River City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
