Glenda Carey Newcomb, 90, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Alamance County, she was born June 25, 1934 to the late Thea Otis and Lillian Faulkner Carey and was the wife of 47 years to Obie Allen Newcomb of the home.
Glenda was a longtime member of Union Ridge Church where she was a member of the church choir and the Women’s Fellowship. She was a gifted singer, singing in numerous weddings and funerals. She was employed with Burlington Industries, Konica-Minolta where she would later retire and worked as a volunteer at ARMC. Glenda loved her pets, especially her cats. She was often found reading a book or gazing at the birds, squirrels and other wildlife on her property. She also enjoyed gardening and meticulously caring for her roses, lilies and orchids. Glenda seldom turned down anything sweet and proudly referred to herself as the “best tobacco tier in Alamance County”. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandbabies.
She is survived by her husband, Allen; daughters, April Knox (Michael), Ann Austin (Jim); sons, Nathan Garrison, Jr., David Garrison (Gladys); grandchildren, James Clay Allen III (Rejina), Natalie Sepulveda, Nathan Otis Garrison (Danielle), Liz Garrison, Dena Kathleen Garrison, Victoria Garrison, Ashlea Robertson (Bud), Nicole Westin; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Neil Carey (Brenda), Fairley Carey (Brenda) and sisters, Angela Pendergrass (Ronnie) and Jill Saunders (Don). She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lonnie Carey, Stanley Carey and a sister, Lala Rascoe.
A service to celebrate Glenda’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:45 prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alamance County Humane Society at https://www.hsaconline.org/donate.html.
You may watch the service and send condolences to www.lowefuneralhome.com.
