Burlington - Glen Melvin Shaffer, 92, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 20, 1925 in Selinsgrove, PA to the late George Elmer Shaffer and Anna Jane Strawser Behrenshausen; and was the husband to Darleen May Felker Shaffer for
67 years, who survives.
Glen retired after 23 years with the US Air Force. After retirement, Glen received a Forestry Degree from Penn State University and was a Forester for the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Gibsonville.
He is survived by his wife, Darleen Felker Shaffer; sons, Thomas F. Shaffer and wife Pat, Lee D. Shaffer and wife Melanie, Karl A. Shaffer and wife Kathy; granddaughters, Kristin Shaffer and Lisbeth Vavalo and husband, John; and great grandchildren, Jade and Ava Vavalo.
Glen was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, gardener, and a loving family man. He is one of the last of the greatest generation, a World War II and Vietnam veteran, retiring with distinguished military honors.
The celebration of life service will be held April 27, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. at the Twin Lakes May-Foley Chapel. The family will briefly receive friends following the service before retiring to a private reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Twin Lakes Community Residence Assistance Fund, 3701 Wade Coble Drive, Burlington, NC 27215.
