Gladys Hall

ELON, NC Gladys Ives Hall "Suzie" was 95 years old when she passed away at home Saturday, October 30, 2010. Born in Arlington, Virginia to the former Claude Jenkins & Annie Pearson Ives, she had two siblings, Claude J. Ives & Amy Ives Jordan. Formerly of McLean, VA she and her husband Harlan who preceded her in death by one day short of a year, would have been married 70 years 11/1/10. Blessed by a long and happy union the couple moved to Elon in 1998 to be closer to children & grandchildren. Suzie attended Washington & Lee High School, and went on later to study Interior Design. She trained and worked for the Red Cross during War time, and held several other jobs while being a wife, mother and homemaker. A gourmet extraordinaire, she knew her way around the kitchen with finesse, and had a knack for entertaining. Active for many years in the United Methodist Church, she served in the UMW, was a member of DAR, and enjoyed playing bridge, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She had a passion for living, was not afraid to try new things, was eloquent, classy, and fun. She is survived by her children Harlan Taylor Hall, Jr. and wife Kay of Burlington, NC, Douglas Ives Hall and wife Judy of Watkinsville, GA, and Betty Suzanne Hall Everett and husband Jim of Greensboro, NC; Grandchildren Krista and Debbie Hall, Parker Hall and wife Kim, Chad Hall and Brooke Reyna and Jack Reyna, Jody Hall and wife Sally, and Dylan Taylor Everett. Great Grandchildren include "Gracie" and Brody Hall. In addition she leaves behind much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifetime friends. A good woman, she left a strong, lasting impression on all she met, and will be greatly missed. Her celebration of life memorial will take place Saturday November 6th at 2:00 p.m at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel located at 2205 S. Church Street in Burlington, NC with Rev. Terry Huffines officiating. A special thank you to her Elon UMC friends, good neighbors and loyal helpers Della Nickerson, Lillian and Dennis Trollinger, Shirley Graves, and Bettye Combs. A cancer survivor, memorials may be made to "Stand Up to Cancer" or the American Cancer Society.
