Burlington – Gertrude Gill Lee, 93, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Gertrude was born December 13, 1926 in Roxboro to the late Early G. Gill and Mattie Lunsford Gill. She graduated in 1943 from Mt. Tirzah High School in Person County.
Gertrude worked for Western Electric in Burlington and later retired from Burlington City School System. She had been a volunteer of the Soup Kitchen and the Hospice Thrift Store.
Gertrude was married to the late Alvis Warren Lee on November 11, 1947 for 42 years. She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her soulmate. They had two children, Larry W. Lee and Kathy Lee Arnos. Her family enjoyed the wonderful meals that Gertrude cooked. She enjoyed doing puzzles, visiting/talking with her family and friends, and watching sports on television, especially golf. Gertrude was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington for many years and was currently a member of Davis St. United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and it was reflected in her actions and words.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Larry W. Lee (Barbara); daughter, Kathy Lee Arnos (Robert); granddaughters, Melissa Lee Woodruff (Gavin), Lindsey Lee Purser (Daniel); grandson, Matthew Arnos; great grandchildren, Corbin, Aubrey and Bailey Woodruff. She is also survived by siblings, Clessie Adcock, Elsie Davis, Dorothy Clark, Harold Gill, Sue Betty Parrott and Lessie Preddy (Dennis). She was predeceased by siblings, Christine Hurdle, Mildred Hubbard, Mary Mitchell and Pasco Gill along with many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Gertrude is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and her wonderful next-door neighbors and friends, Rachel and Larry Evans.
The funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Edgar DeJesus and Rev. Randy Wall with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:15-2:15 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
