Burlington Gertrude Cole Graves, 93, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Home Place of Burlington, surrounded by her family. She was born in Orange County to the late Samuel William Cole and the late Susie Ward Cole and was the wife for 74 years to Earl Columbus Graves who died in February 2013. Gertrude was a member of Low's Lutheran Church. She retired from Collins and Aikman and later in life she enjoyed cleaning homes, cleaning her church and working as a nanny. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Norma Graves of Burlington; grandchildren and spouses, Stacey and Beth Graves, Travis and Robin Graves; great grandchildren, Ashley Graves, James Graves and Amanda Graves; step great grandson, Alex Cauthren; sister, Patsy Richardson of Graham and her adopted family, Michael, Maureen, Dustin, Brittany and Stephanie Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; daughter, Dorinda Graves Kelly; sisters, Madge McIver, Annie Mae Holmes, Mary Lloyd, Helen Parrish and Dorothy Wall and a brother, John Cole. The funeral service will be held 4:30pm Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Low's Lutheran Church by Pastor Sam Shores with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 3:00pm to 4:15pm at the church. At other times the family will be at Travis and Robin Graves' home, 4824 Friendship-Rock Creek Road, Burlington, NC 27215. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Low's Lutheran Church, 2136 Hwy 61 South, Liberty, NC 27298 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
