Gerald Lacy Johnson, Jr., age 54, of 1133 Main Street went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Duke University Medical Center. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 34 years of Jan Brothers Johnson who survives. Gerald was employed with the US Postal Service for over 32 years and a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and a member of the choir. Gerald was a former Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. He was a member of the Baptist Lay Witness Foundation and his last mission trip with them was to Honduras. He was the Chaplain of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp # 813 and the Chaplain for the reenactment group Company K 6th Regiment North Carolina State Troops. Gerald was also a member of the North Carolina Archeological Society and a student and collector of American Indian Artifacts. By supporting his son, Gerad in the founding of a local chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity at UNC-W, Gerald was inducted as a member of the Iota Alpha Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was a recording artist, recording as Dax McCall and he also was an avid Demon Deacon Fan. Gerald was a Christian southern gentleman sharing and encouraging others by reminding them of Gods love and care for them. He was a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. Stonewall Jackson stated it best as a soldier of the cross when he stated upon his deathbed let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees. Gerald now has entered into his eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jan Brothers Johnson of the home, daughter, Tanya Johnson Simmons of Burlington; son and daughter-in-law, Gerad and Paige Johnson of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Ryan Coble, Evie Johnson, Landon Johnson and Drew Simmons; mother, Betty Jane Way Johnson of Graham; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Lisa Johnson of Reidsville; niece, Hannah Johnson and nephew, Matthew Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Lacy Johnson, Sr. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Eugene Hunsinger and assisted by Rev. Herman White and Dr. James Johnson. The burial will be at Alamance Lutheran Church Cemetery with an honor guard by the 6th NC Regiment NCST. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. until 12 noon at Grove Park Baptist Church. The body will lie in state on Sunday afternoon at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will be at the home.
