Elon - Gerald Ray Dickerson, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Walter Gray Dickerson and Ombrice Harris Dickerson and was the husband to Polly Willis Sykes who survives.
Gerald retired from Western Electric (Lucent) after 36 years of service, a charter member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He served in the US Marines 4th Division in WWII.
Survivors other than his wife, Polly of the home include his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Cary Fritter of Raleigh; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald "Merritt" and Bobbie Dickerson of Mebane; grandchildren, Rob Dickerson and wife, Karen, Matthew Fritter and wife, Katherine, Jonathan Fritter and wife, Kristi; great grandchildren, Sophia Dickerson, Abby Fritter, Anna Fritter, Ollie Fritter; 4 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 step brothers, a special niece, Cherri Jo Carver and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nobie Ann Rogers Dickerson of 69 years who died in December 2013, his parents, 7 brothers and sisters.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00am on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Don Pegg with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-10:45am prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
