George Waddell

Cary George Faucette Waddell of Cary, and long-time resident of Burlington, NC was called home by his Lord at 8:10 PM Thursday, Oct. 4, 2006. Georges parents, Ed and Mary Waddell opened their grocery business on the corner of Holt and Main not long after Burlingtons name was changed from Company Shops. Early on, George delivered newspapers for the Times on his pony, Daisy. Later he drove the ambulance for Lowe Funeral Home which, at that time, was located across the street from Waddells Meat Mkt. After high school, George became a very popular electrician with Peele Electrical Company and became known statewide as one of the best in his field. He retired at 78 years of age to care for his wife. Of interest, he wired the famous carousel at the Burlington City Park which has been enjoyed by thousands of children for many years. He loved and respected people and was loved by all of his customers. He was a volunteer fireman with the Burlington Fire Department. George was a long time member, choir member and for many years Official Board member of West Burlington Methodist Church. George was married to his precious sweetheart, the late Clara Murray Waddell, for 55 years. He is survived by two daughters, Kay Waddell Earp and Sandra Waddell Harris and her husband, Jimmy and by his grandchildren, Pamela Harris Page and her husband, Dwayne, Robert Avery Craddock, Jr., James Gregory Harris and his wife, Carol and Clair LeAnn Hirt and her husband, Robert, James Wiley Earp III and his wife, Elisabeth. His great grandchildren are Madison and Emily Page, Jordan and Jeremy Harris and Chris Earp. He is also survived by his brothers, Howard Waddell of Chattanooga, TN, Jack Waddell and his wife, Edna of Savannah, GA and Charles Waddell of Burlington and by precious nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister Alyce Tilly. Serving as pallbearers are: Jimmy Harriis, Dwayne Page, Avery Craddock, Robert Hirt, Greg Harris and Jimmy Earp. The funeral will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Carey Horrell. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:30 1:45 Saturday prior to the funeral. Condolences may be sent to the family at info@lowefuneralhome.com.
