George Mack Gerringer, age 86, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital after several years of failing health.
He was born on July 12, 1931 in Guilford County to the late Andy Boston Gerringer and Annie Wyrick Gerringer and was married for over 65 years to Betty Lou Andrews Gerringer, who survives. George was a retired farmer and owner and operator of Gerringer's Greenhouses for over 30 years. He was a member and former deacon of Peace Lutheran Church, a volunteer fireman with the McLeansville Fire Department and a lifelong active member of the McLeansville Community.
Survivors other than his wife, Betty, include his son, Randy Dean Gerringer and wife, Vickie; his grandson, Andrew "Drew" Gerringer and wife, Allison; great grandsons, Lance Warner Gerringer and Braxton Levi Gerringer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Virgie Fryar, Eva McIntyre, Hazel Smith, Delories Gerringer Sockwell and Bertha Scott; and four brothers, Cling Gerringer, A.B. Gerringer, Colon Gerringer and Roger Gerringer.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church by Rev. Jim Therrell with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for 2:00 - 2:45 Sunday afternoon prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
