Burlington George Delmer Edwards, 80, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. A native of Alamance County, he was born July 11, 1931 to the late Earlie Erastus and Gay Ettie Cates Edwards. . Mr. Edwards was a member of Teamster #391 and the Burlington Moose Lodge. He was employed with McLean Trucking for 30 years and McKee Food Corporation for 10 years. He is survived by his daughters, June Edwards Byrd and husband David, Lavon Edwards Whitt and husband Ross all of Burlington, Sheila Metcalf of Haw River and Beth Rasnake of Burlington; a son, George Dennis Edwards of Jacksonville, FL.; grandchildren, Douglas Braxton, Summer Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Alex Edwards, Joe Marshall, Meredith Marshall, Kathryn Whitt, Nicole Cummings, Scotty Pruitt and Trip Davis; great grandchildren, Ethan Edwards, Jessica Braxton, Eli Cummings, Ashley Braxton, Neveida Harris and Reese Harris and daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Edwards and a very special friend Sylvia Richardson.. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Brian Edwards; grandson, Paul Garrison; brothers, Marshall F. Edwards, Gifford G. Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Albert Edwards and Hugh E. Edwards and sister, Hilda Grey Edwards. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, June 25, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Lamberth and Rev. Allen Filgo with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of the daughter, Lavon Whitt, of 3504 Mine Creek Rd. in Burlington. The family would like to offer a special thanks to all of the nurses at The Hospice Home for their loving care of Mr. Edwards during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
