George William Bennett, 88, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Hospice Home after a short illness. He was born in Sampson County to the late Roscoe Lamar Bennett and Daisy Bee Paige Bennett, and was the husband to Betty Ann Blackburn Bennett of 55 years who survives. Survivors other than his wife Betty, include his daughters, Lois B. Blair, husband, Don and Theresa B. Powell; granddaughter, Brittany Taylor Harding; step grandchildren, Madison Phillips and Jordan Blair; sisters, Shirley Wilkes and Flossie Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Brenda B. Wright; sons, George W. Bennett, Jr. and Douglas Lamar Bennett; 3 sisters and 5 brothers. George retired after 29 years with Western Electric and was the owner and operator of Piedmont Transit, Inc. and Piedmont Tours, Inc. for 21 years. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Gibsonville, NC. The Bennett family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Wednesday, February 4th at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Alamance Memorial Park. There will be a memorial service held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 7th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gibsonville. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gibsonville, 3401 Suits Road, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
