ELON- Mrs. Elizabeth Gayle Gum Clapp, age 72, of Elon, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several weeks of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late James Bedford Gum and the late Alease Stevens Gum and was married to the late Sidney Houston Clapp, along with her son, Jeff Clapp, who both passed in 1986. She was retired after 40 years of service from Alamance Regional Medical Center, where she served on the switchboard and was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church. Gayle also loved to cook and to go shopping.
Mrs. Clapp is survived by her sister, Letha Day and husband, Donnie; an uncle, Terry Hill; an aunt, Brenda King and husband, Freddie; nephews, Brandon “Beep” Kivette and Kenneth Day and wife, Michelle; a niece, Tracy Staley and husband, Todd; and three great nephews, Cameron “Roni” Day, Connor “Punkin” Day and Chase Staley; numerous cousins; and her canine companion, “Jake”. She was preceded in death by her husband and son; parents; grandparents, Joe and Pauline Hill; and an aunt, Vickie Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jonathan Graves. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 PM Tuesday afternoon prior to the service at the funeral home.
