Burlington Gary Eston Murray, 68, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a four year battle with cancer. He was born in Alamance County to the late Elmer Eston Murray and the late Edith Holden Murray and was the husband of 47 years to Wanda Overman Murray who survives. Gary retired in 2006 after 20 years with the Alamance Soil and Water Conservation District. A farmer all his life, he was the owner and founder of Sunset Farms. Gary was a US Army Veteran, a member of the Carrboro Farmers Market, and the Voluntary Agriculture District of Alamance County. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he participated in the church choir, and was a teacher of the Clyde Faulkner Fellowship Sunday School Class. Survivors other than his wife of the home include his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jamie Murray of Burlington; grandchildren, Eston, Adela and Harlon Murray; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Mike Webb of Snow Camp and a niece, Jessie Webb of Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville by Rev. Chuck Ireson, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday night at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 4400 Alamance Church Road, Liberty, NC 27298. The Murray family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Alamance Regional Cancer Center for all their compassion that was showed to Mr. Murray during his illness.
