Garland Whitt

Garland Edward Whitt, age 76 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 53 years to Joyce Gentry Whitt who survives. Garland was a retired US Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed restoring old cars and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Joyce G. Whitt of the home; daughters, Cindy Williams and husband, Larry of Burlington, Amy Allen of Mebane and Bonnie McDonald of Burlington; son, Michael Whitt of Altamahaw; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sister, Lois Clapp of Elon and brothers, Clarence Whitt and wife, Sheila, Gene Whitt and wife, Nancy and Ervin Whitt and wife, Sandra all of Elon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth James and Brona Sue Bradsher Whitt. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Skenes and Rev. James Black. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors provided by the US Navy. There will be a reception and visitation for family and friends from 12:30-1:45 pm on Monday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home at other times.
