Garland Steele

Garland Florance Steele, 77, of Alamance St. passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late James Garland and Lela Catherine Florence Steele. Garland was a self employed accountant, member of the Burlington Chapter of the North Carolina Society of Accountants, attended N.C. State University and had previously been a driver for Hennis Freight Line. Born and raised in the small town, his grandfather, H.W. Steele, a confederate soldier, was the first mayor of Gibsonville after its reorganization in 1883. Garland much like his grandfather was a man of strong moral character, his convictions were never in question. He loved history and in particular, Civil War history and studying the battles of war. He enjoyed the "country", being at his farm, walking in the creek, and was committed to his work and helping people. Garland's sly grin was brought out best by his group of close friends and pals who share many stories and great memories. He was happiest spending time with his little buddy, Taylor and his precious princess, Callie. He was a perfect Southern Gentleman. Survivors include his step daughter, Lydia Moser Larry of Whitsett; nieces, Lela Groene Daniel of Cincinnati, OH and Sara Mendez Sergio of Orlando FL; nephew, Peter Lineberger Jeanette of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren Taylor Moser Jordan, Callie Moser and Addison Justice; sister in law, Lynn Baldwin Ricky Carden. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life for 23 years and his honey, Bonnie Tickle and sister, Catherine "Booty" Lodosca Steele Lineberger. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mr. Steele will remain at Lowe Funeral Home through the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7p.m. Monday, The family would like to thank Lynn and Robbie Wyrick and Karl Walker for the special care given Garland.
