Mr. Gale Darrell Anderson, age 90, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his home after six months of failing health.
Gale was a native of Alamance County and was the fifth of six sons born to the late Grover Brower Anderson and the late Rosa Barber Anderson. After serving with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII, he returned home and graduated from Elon College. He was employed by Western Electric / Lucent Technologies until his retirement after 37 years of service. Gale was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Alamance-Caswell Hunt Club, the Alamance Seniors' Golf Association, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Moose Lodge #649.
Gale was a loving husband, dad, granddad and great granddad who gave his time, energy and love to all around him, especially his family and friends. He was an avid Duke fan, loved spending time at his get-away home at Hyco Lake, woodworking in his shop and hitting the links with his friends.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mrs. Jean Fambrough Anderson of the home; two daughters, Sally Anderson Janicello and husband, David, of Burlington and Kelly Anderson Hammer and husband, Russell, of Marblehead, MA; six grandchildren, Zachary Janicello and wife, Natalie, Ethan Janicello, Ally Janicello, Lillian Hammer, Olivia Janicello and Anneliese Hammer; two great grandchildren, Ruby "Doodlebug" Janicello and Tristan Herbert; a brother, G. Clinton Anderson of Raleigh; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, J. Howard Anderson, Carmel W. Anderson, E. Cleo Anderson and Larry L. Anderson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Friday, June 2, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by his grandson, Zach Janicello. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
