Burlington Gaither Marvin Kellam, Jr., age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born March 31, 1926 to the late Gaither Marvin and Orpha Sharpe Kellam, Sr. and was the husband of 57 years to Frances Beckom Kellam of the home. Marvin was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery. He served in the Army during WWII earning a service medal with 3 bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed spending most of his time gardening and was a big fan of racing. He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Steve Kellam and wife Teresa of Elon; a daughter, Linda Cain and husband Jim of Cary; grandchildren, Jaclyn Herman and husband Ryan of Kinston, Alison Kellam and Jason Kellam both of Elon; a sister, Vivian Greeson and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Maurice Kellam, Brodice Kellam, infant Gaither Howard Kellam and sisters, Geneva Kellam, Martha Holt, Helen Wood and Rachel Inglehiem. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday. June 14, 2011 at Faith United Methodist Church by Rev. William "Bud" Budzinski with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1732 W. Davis St., Burlington, NC 27215.
