G. Jeanette “Nettie” Chester Tickel, 88, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after battling a sudden illness. She was born in Dayton, OH on January 31, 1933 to the late Thomas Karo Chester and Nellie Ingram Chester and was the wife of 59 years to the late Delbert John Tickel.
Nettie’s most precious memories were the times with family and friends. She was an avid reader of novelist Stephen King and also took great joy in flower gardening and TV courtroom dramas. One of Jeanette’s favorite possessions was a personal letter and signed photo she received from former President Barack Obama thanking her for reaching out to him. She will always be known as a hugger and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Anne Underwood (Marvin Grey Underwood); sons, Michael John Tickel (Martha Tickel) and Steven Douglas Tickel. “Grandma” was blessed with six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a beloved lifelong friend, Barbara Zimmerman of Dayton, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and four sisters.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum by Rev. Clyde Christmas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
