Frederick Childress

Whitsett-Frederick "Fred" Allen Childress, 77, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018. He grew up and completed his primary education in Gibsonville. He was the husband of the late Audrey Mills Childress.
Fred was Vice President of distribution with Orders Tiles Distribution Corporation where he spent many enjoyable years. He continued his career path as a partner with Leisure Time Foods and most recently was employed with the American Auto Auction. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. Fred was a 1959 graduate of Gibsonville High School receiving an award for Best Sportsmanship due to his excellence in athletics. He later attended Portsmouth Military Academy where he participated in athletics. Fred was a former member of Hunter Hills Baptist Church and a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his son, Ron Childress of Greensboro; grandsons, Christopher (Brandy) Childress of Randleman and Hunter Childress of High Point; sisters, Polly Case of Summerfield and Sara Isley of Gibsonville; brothers, Mitcheal (Carolyn) Childress of Gibsonville, Ray Childress of Elon; several nieces and nephews and a close friend, Rose Webster. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Foley Edgar and Maggie Cole Childress.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Deon Parker. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
