Fred Griggs

Mr. Fred S. Griggs, 72 of Burlington, NC passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at home after a long and courageous battle with strokes and dementia. Fred was a loving husband, father and honorably discharged US Navy Veteran and proud of his service; he was an avid Duke Blue Devil fan. Fred was the youngest son of the late Gordon and Ocie Griggs of Clover, SC born April 19, 1939. He was preceded in death by brothers George and Robert Griggs; sisters, Wanda McCloud and Juanita Cahill. He will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Mildred Griggs; son, Donald Ellen of Gastonia, NC; daughter, Nancy Wayne of Bessemer City, NC; son, Anthony Michelle of Mebane, NC; three grandchildren Austin Mandy Carswell of Lincolnton, NC, Stacey Robert Peterson of Gaffney, SC, and Heather Griggs of Mebane, NC; two great-grandsons Skylar Carswell and Lucas Nathaniel Peterson due May 2012. Many loving thanks to great neighbors who have been like family, Carl, Bonnie, Carla and Brandon Pearson. Many thanks to Janet Hitchens, Ellen Gaffney, Joanna Kelley of Hospice for their wonderful caring of our family during this time. He is also survived by three brothers; Jerry of Brooksville, FL, Don Betty of Clover, SC and Wayne Betty of Rock Hill, SC. and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
