Fred Chatham

Burlington, NC Fred B. Chatham, age 85, of Grace Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at ARMC. He was a native of Schoolfield, Virginia and the husband of the late Ruth Hill Chatham. Fred was employed for 22 years with Associated Transport and he most recently worked at Burger King. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WW II serving in the Pacific Theatre, Fred was a member of Florence Memorial Baptist Church where he played and sang during his lifetime. He used his musical talents to minister to many churches in our community. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy C. Alcorn of Burlington; grandchildren, Crystal Lawrence and Richard April Lawrence all of Burlington; great grandchildren, Dylan Gerner, Alice Sullivan and Lillian Lawrence; nephews, Richard and Preston Chatham. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, James Robert and Maggie Stump Chatham. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Florence Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. James Florence. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Eden with military honors provided by the US Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. Memorials may be made to Florence Memorial Baptist Church, 910 Gibson Road, Mebane, NC 27302.
