Frank Jackson Brumfield, age 87, of Barham Street, passed peacefully after six months of failing health on Sunday, June 2nd at the Hospice Home on Chapel Hill Road with friends and family present. Frank was born November 4th, 1925 in Blackstone, Virginia. He was the son of the late Ellis G. and Annie Laurie Perkins Brumfield. After leaving Virginia, his family moved to the Altamahaw-Ossipee Community. Frank moved to Burlington in 1958. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Virginia Brumfield, Ada Jarrett and Lessie Walters; and a brother, James Brumfield. He and his sister, Virginia, were active in the care of their parents, their sister, Ada, and brother, James. Ultimately, Frank became the primary caregiver for his sister, Virginia, before her passing on December 22, 2008. Frank was of the Baptist faith and was retired from AT&T. He served his country in the U.S. Army 8th Infantry, seeing action in the European Theater during World War II 1943-1945 where he was awarded the EAME Service Medal with two bronze stars. Upon his return he attended Elon College. Frank was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the AT@T Pioneers, avid golfer, Duke Basketball fan, a friend to many and a great neighbor. He remained active and independent until his recent health issues. He is survived by his close friends, John and Ann Rogers, Tim and Yvonne Ross, Buddy Deese and his daughter, Chelsea, Andy Adamchik and Ray Stutts; niece, Connie Swartz of Lynchburg, Virginia; grand-niece, Bernadette Cover and her husband, Dale Minor Cover II, of Florida; and grand-nephew, Kenneth Swartz of Lynchburg, Virginia. Per his wishes, a private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Altamahaw Baptist Church Cemetery.
