Burlington, NC Frances Roberts Grubbs, age 91 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2014. She was a native of Pittsylvania County, Virginia and the wife of the late Joseph "Coot" Elliotte Grubbs. Frances taught Home Economics at Anderson High School for many years and was a substitute teacher for Anderson Elementary for several years. She was the valedictorian ofr the 1940 graduating class of Bartlett Yancey High School. Frances graduated from East Carolina University with a BA in Home Economics. She was a member of Baynes Baptist Church where she served as long time teacher of the Beginners Sunday School Class. Frances was the President of the WMU and was an assistant for Vacation Bible School for years. She was also the church clerk for 25 years. Frances was a life member of the Eastern Star, member of the Battle of Alamance Chapter of the DAR and TOPS/KOPS for 30 years. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Miller and husband, Arthur, and Janice Hester both of Burlington; son, Joseph R. Grubbs and wife, Donna of Leasburg; grandchildren, Diana Miller, Arthur Miller, III, Shannon Miller, Gena Bill Pleasant, Rebekah Miller, Ricki Annette Clyde King, Felicia Jimmy George, Holly Jesse Kunselman, Joseph Robert Grubbs, Jr., Joshua Kim Grubbs and Mary-Hannah Grubbs; eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, John Willie Roberts and Mary Fannie Lyon Roberts; granddaughter, Carol Ann Toney; son-in-law, Keith Hester; sister, Annie Rowland and a brother, David Franklin Roberts. The family would like to thank all those who provided care, love and support to our sweet mother, especially Mrs. Hallie Perkins A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Baynes Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Ingram, Rev. Scott Williams and Rev. Larry McCarty. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Janice Hester. Memorials may be made to Baynes Baptist Church, 1757 Baynes Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
