Burlington, NC Floyd "Bob" Marvin Burns, age 90, of Whitesell Drive went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Hickory and the husband of 69 years to Elizabeth "Libby" Cheek Burns who survives. Bob formerly worked for Spence Motors and Alamance Motors in Burlington and later retired from Brock Manufacturing Company in Crystal Lake, Illinois and was a member of Ireland Street Chapel. He was a veteran of the US Army and US Marine Corps during WW II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Cheek Burns of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Healy and her husband, Michael of Birmingham, Alabama; Rebecca Smith and her husband, Richard of Greensboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Burns and his wife, Paula of Mebane; Stephen Burns of Takoma Park, Maryland, Pete Burns and his wife, Joyce of Warm Springs, Georgia; John Burns of Burlington and Paul Burns and his wife, Susan of Richmond, Virginia; 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Iona Rudd and Betty Goldston both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael "Mickey" Burns and Larry Burns; parents, Marvin Henry and Bessie Sykes Burns. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ireland Street Chapel by Alan Parks, Eddie Schwartz and A. G. Sutton, Jr., and the entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
