Fletcher Fleming

Fletcher Dillard Fleming, 91, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2013 at the Hospice Home. Mr. Fleming was born September 22, 1921 in Elberton, GA to the late Fletcher Dillard and Pearl Wilhite Fleming, Sr. and was the husband of 63 years to the late Delores Young Fleming. Mr. Fleming was a member of First Baptist of Alamance and retired from Associated Transport. He was a US Veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. At the beginning of WWII Mr. Fleming was stationed on the Aleutian Islands, AK. He served on various islands throughout the Pacific the remainder of the war. He was at Ie Shima in August 1945 when the Japanese envoys signed the official surrender papers ending the war. This was the stage for the ceremonial surrender at Tokyo Bay in September. Survivors include his son, Dillard Neil and Rhonda Suggs Fleming of Lansdale, PA; grandchildren, Stephen Neil Fleming and wife, Lisa Maria Fleming of Boston, MA and Katherine Amanda Fleming and fianc, Brett Ryne Bordlemay of New York City and great grandson, Noah Fletcher Fleming. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters, Geneva Fleming Suttles and Evelyn Fleming Guest. The funeral service will be held 2:00pm on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Daniel Gregory and Rev. Danny Hamm with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
