Mrs. Fern Rebecca Wood Vaughn, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at her home after several weeks of failing health. A native of Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Basil Wood and the late Bertha Hardy Wood and was married for over 67 years to the late Bruce Elton Vaughn, who died in 2013. Fern retired from AMI, after working many years in the textile industry. She was very active at Glen Raven Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member and involved with the Ladies' Circle, Chairman of the Flower Committee and leader of the Ladies' Prayer Room. Fern was a charter member of the May-Lee Friendship Club. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her two daughters, Pam Hatcher and husband, Lowell, of Elon and Sandra Curtis and husband, Dale, of Nags Head, NC; four grandchildren, Michelle Bridges and husband, Steve, Todd Curtis and wife, Robin, Jennifer Curtis and Shane Hatcher; nine great grandchildren, Steven and Alexis Hatcher, Michael, Katy, Abby and John Bridges, Adam Curtis and Emily and Andrew Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Homer Wood and Billy Wood. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bobby Fann. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence. The family would like to offer special thanks to Beverly Paschal Collins for her many years of friendship and support and all past and current home caregivers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Glen Raven Baptist Church, 335 Glen Raven Rd., Burlington, NC 27217.
