Miss Evilea “E” Baldwin, age 92, formerly of Gibsonville, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Peak Resources in Graham.
E was the daughter of the late Rosa Lee Baldwin. If asked where she attend church she would proudly say, “I am a member of Friedens Lutheran Church,” one of the oldest churches in the area. E regularly attended with her mother and grandmother and always gave what she could to the church.
E grew up on the family farm on Baldwin Road in eastern Guilford County. Like others who grew up on a farm she did not have a lot, but fondly recalled a special rocking chair and a little red wagon. She would also tell stories of various animals on the farm, one in particular was “Spot,” a white bird dog who was very protective of her.
When E was a young girl, she helped her mother take care of children. As she got older, she helped prepare items for local farmer’s markets by shelling peas, stringing beans, seeding cherries, and canning produce. At family gatherings on the farm, E would be found sitting next to the woodstove recalling family birthdays and anniversaries, her favorite meals, and stories growing up on the farm, all with a photographic memory. Later in life she continued to entertain the family at holiday meals by singing her favorite hymns, recalling life on the farm, and asking “what’s for dessert.”
When she moved to Brookdale Senior Living, E continued to care for others by helping the residents and staff fold socks, open boxes, and served as the residents’ “E-mail” making announcements throughout the halls. Those who talked with E long enough would hear two things, her favorite phrase, “…and things like that” and her best advice, “Do the best that you can.” In looking back over E’s life, she did exactly that, she did the best that she could.
Miss Baldwin is survived by numerous cousins and extended family, including her cousin, Judy Blake, who lovingly accepted the task of caring for E’s personal needs for 25 years, along side of the aides at both Brookdale and Peak.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery by Reverand Jennifer Zima. The family will receive friends following the service.
