Evie Smith

Gibsonville Mrs. Evie Dowd "Brownie" Smith, age 81 of Burlington Ave, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Ashton Place Health and Rehab. A native of Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late Bennie and Laura McDaniel Dowd and wife of the late James Franklin Smith, Sr. Brownie had been employed at Coble Dairy and later retired from Carolina Biological Supply Co. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville. She is survived by her son, James Smith and wife Robin of Gibsonville and granddaughter, Allyson Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and was the last living of 21 brothers, sisters, half brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, July 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville by Rev. Julian Griffin. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mrs. Smith will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 4-6pm Sunday and at other times the home of her son, 115 Victoria Lane, Gibsonville.
