Evelyn Sloan Scoggins, 83, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John Clinton "Jake" Scoggins and was born August 30, 1926 in Greenville County, SC to the late Samp Babb and Anna Neeley Sloan. Evelyn was retired from Labcorp where she worked many years as a dispatcher. She was a faithful member of Lowe Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She also taught AWANAS and enjoyed cooking breakfast for the bus ministry. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ellen Butts and husband Skip of Burlington; a son, Johnny L. Scoggins of Mesa, AZ; a granddaughter, Carmen L. Scoggins of Boone, NC; sisters, Faye Moody of Wendell, NC and Lucille Lee of Burlington and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a grandson, John Matthew Butts; sisters, Ellen Cook and Clara Lynch; and brothers, Tom Sloan, Lewis Sloan, and Ray Sloan. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Lowe Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Bill Gindlesperger. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Lowe Memorial Baptist Church, 1712 W.
