Mrs. Eva Blanchard Garrison, age 94, of 2922 Mine Creek Rd., died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Alamance County, she was the daughter of Bethel Frederick Blanchard, Sr. and Ida Siler Blanchard, both deceased. She is survived by her husband of over 72 years, H. Raymond Garrison of the home; two daughters, Beth Lockamy and husband Aaron, and Barbara Massey and husband Greg, all of Burlington; four grandchildren, Robin Siren Bill, Tim Lockamy Dee, Penney Hoppe Scott and Katherine Snider Jerry; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Faulkner and Billie Murphy, both of Burlington; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Becky Marshall; two brothers, Curtis Blanchard and B.F. Blanchard, Jr.; and one sister, Annie Mae Lee Payne. Eva was a 1935 Graduate of Pleasant Grove School where she played basketball, was the captain of her team, and won all-county player. She was also a graduate of Burlington Business College and worked at Davis News before starting her family. Eva was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Pleasant Grove Home Extension Club. Each summer Eva hosted the area Bookmobile to encourage reading among the neighborhood children and she also enjoyed hosting the family 4th of July picnics. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She loved to go to the beach and collect sea shells. She also collected thimbles, vinegar cruets, and handmade baskets. The family would like to express their thanks for all the many kindnesses shown to them during this time, and especially to the Hospice team and other caregivers who gave support in the home. Your kind and compassionate care was truly a blessing to the entire family. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, March 9, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stewart Crank, Rev. Rene Burnette and Rev. David Wade. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening and other times at the residence.
