Eugene Bowens, Jr., 83, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at his home. He was born in Vance County on June 8, 1931 to the late Eugene and Bessie Lee Bowen, Sr. and was the husband of 63 years to Patty Elizabeth Conner Bowens of the home. Eugene was a charter member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was the owner and operator of One Hour Valet Dry Cleaners for many years while also working at Labcorp where he later retired. He was an avid sportsman spending his time playing baseball, softball or fishing. His love for baseball became a reality when he caught his first and only Major League Baseball game with the Detroit Tigers before being called up to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Rickey Bowens Louise of Siler City, Ronald "Ronnie" Bowens Judy Foster of Burlington; daughter, Linda Bowens Faucette Jay of Burlington; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a brother, Michael Bowens Elizabeth and a sister, Shirley Morton Jackie. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Carlton Bowens and Jimmy Bowens. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Friendly Lane Baptist Church by Rev. Craig Cox with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the daughter Linda's home.
