Eugene Dock Whity Ayers, 74, of 407 Everett St. passed away Tuesday May 9, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham following four years of failing health and one week critical. He was the husband of Clara Davis Ayers and the son of the late Dock and Clara West Ayers. Eugene was a native of Alamance County, a self employed Corduroy Consultant of the Baptist Faith and served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of the home, a son Garry Ayers of Haw River, a stepdaughter Dale Hargrove and her husband David of Graham, a stepson Lynn Piper and his wife Becky of Lexington, grandchildren; Laura Boswell, Rodney Thompson, Eric Ayers, Stephen Ayers, four step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and a brother John D. Ayers and his wife Earlie of Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters; Sharon Ayers and Gloria Skenes. There will be a memorial service 2:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Howard Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.
