Ettalene Shaw

Mrs. Ettalene Ward Shaw, 95, of Burlington, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior and King, Jesus Christ, on January 28, 2022. Ettalene was born June 12, 1926 in Guilford County. She was the wife of 72 years to the late Elbert L. Shaw and the daughter of Charlie Weaver Ward and Martha Edna Arnold Ward.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was affectionately known as “The Baby Whisperer”. The importance of family and traditional large meal gatherings will always be remembered. She loved and served Jesus and her church throughout her life. A member of New Life at Hocutt since 1948, Ettalene, along with her husband, dedicated their time to mission trips with the youth, trips for seniors, teaching and visiting the sick. She was a Hospice volunteer, and loved to travel with family. Along with her late husband, she expressed her creativity by participating in craft shows with woodworking, painting crafts, flower arranging and also growing and selling plants from her greenhouse.

Ettalene is survived by her daughters, Trudy Hurst and husband Don of Atlanta, GA, Renee Downing and husband Larry of Durham, and Denise Cardella and husband Dominic of Cary; grandchildren, Allison Conway and husband Chris, Jason Hurst and wife Ginger, Greg Hurst and wife Alesha, and Ashlee Lepore and husband Joe; great-grandchildren, Felicity Conway, Lacey Conway, Katelynn Hurst, Philip Hurst, Justin Hurst, Hunter Hurst, Rocco Lepore, and Wren Lepore and sisters in law, Sue Huddleston and Alice Overman.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Ettalene will lie in state on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM at Lowe Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held to celebrate her life, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 12 Noon at Pine Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy L. Nickelston officiating.  All are welcome to attend.
