Mrs. Ethel Russell Hornaday, age 87, of Liberty, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Alamance Memorial Hospital after several weeks of failing health.
Born in Robeson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late John R. Russell and the late Ida Farmer Russell and was married for over 34 years to Nathaniel Mayo Hornaday, who passed in 1991. Ethel was retired from the Burlington Fire Department, where she served as the Secretary to the Fire Chief. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and also served as a "Pink Lady" at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Ethel enjoyed traveling, shopping and especially spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Hornaday is survived by her daughter, Lane Teague and her husband, Tony, of Liberty; nieces and nephews, John (Kay) Doss, Gay (Gary) Brown, Al (Terri) Boswell, Vickie (Phillip) Parker, Linda (James) Albright, Bill (Garnette) Teague, Simon (Betty) Teague, Gail (Ronnie)Moore, Steve Hornaday and Gerald Hornaday; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her granddog, "Samson". She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Fred Russell, Allie Boswell, Eva Self, Nellie Doss, Bob Russell, Effie Lambert and Ruby Russell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery by Rev. Howard Spray. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
