McLeansville – Ernest Cartner, Jr., 99, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Ashton Place after several weeks of failing health. He was born in Davie County March 21, 1921 and was married to the late Virginia Cartner Walton until 1973 and then Annie Mae Cartner until her death in 2015.
Ernest proudly served the US Army and was present during the Pearl Harbor attack. He served in ministry for over 66 years pastoring several churches throughout his ministry and continued ministering while a resident at The Oaks and Ashton Place. He enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and loved animals.
Survivors include his son, Pastor David Cartner and wife Gail; daughter, Jennifer Shelton and husband R.A.; granddaughters, Dana Tickle and husband Tim, Holly Church and husband Daniel, and Ashlyn Cartner; grandson, Bill Taylor, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice and Palliative Care) of Alamance County, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
The family will be having a private Celebration of Life service that will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Johnson Baptist Church.
