Elva Smith Apple passed away peacefully Friday April 8th at her home in Burlington after several years of failing health. She was born in Caswell County September 12, 1926 to the late Lester Hassel Smith and Mattie Belle McKinney Smith. She was married to Robert Lee Apple for fifty-six years before his death in 2001. She was a member of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church.
Elva was a loving and proud mother to four children, Clennon Apple (Sylvia), Wade Apple (Patricia), René Page (Ronnie) and Larry Apple (Penny). She was blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Surviving Elva also are her sister, Erma Matherly (Leonard), and brothers Johnnie Smith (Mildred) and Fred Smith (Judy) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Nellie Rudd, Brona Herndon, Inez Conklin and brothers Earl Smith, Roy Smith and Eugene Smith.
The family would like to extend a grateful "Thank You" to Vanessa Reagan Whitman,Gail Perkins and Janice Gilley for their tender care of our mother. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. We would also like to thank the people from Amedisys Hospice Care for their kind and generous assistance.
Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington on Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Her funeral service will be conducted at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church on Sunday at 2:00 PM by Elder David Underwood, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
