Elna Scruggs

Elna Mariah Scruggs, 86, of Burlington passed away at Alamance House on Thursday, December 24, 2020, following several years of declining health.

Born in Gretna, Virginia, she was the loving wife of the late Carroll V. Scruggs and the daughter of Raymond and Emma Mayhew, both deceased.  She was a graduate of Gretna High School where she was voted “Best All Around.”  Elna retired from Burlington Industries where she worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Plant Manager at the Pioneer II Plant, in Graham.  She was an active member of Glencoe Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and as co-chair of the Historical Committee, helping to record and preserve the history of the church.  Elna loved cooking for her family and friends.  Her greatest joys were her church and her family.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Survivors include three sons:  Tom Scruggs and wife, Terry, Jim Scruggs and wife, Beth, and John Scruggs; four grandchildren:  Kelly Klick and husband, Brandon, Kristin Ford and husband, Patrick, Erin Strickland and husband, Zack, Hannah Pruett and husband, Paul, and Sarah Scruggs; and eight great grandchildren: Caden, Caroline, Carter, and Charlotte Klick, and Eli, Ruby, Sammy, and Henry Ford.

Elna was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon C. Mayhew.

A funeral service will be held at Glencoe Baptist Church on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Darrell Massey presiding.  The family will have a private burial in Gretna, Virginia.
