Ellen Mincey

Ellen Page Mincey, 86, passed away at her home Thursday February 9, 2017. She was born April 1, 1930 in Buies Creek, NC to the late Hubbard Fulton and Orilla Viers Page. After high school she went on to attend Campbell College. While working in Raleigh she met and fell in love with James Haywood Mincey. This April they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage. Ellen was a dedicated wife to Haywood and mother to her three children. She took pride in being an excellent cook and housekeeper. Many friends and family remember her pot roasts and apple pies. Ellen worked first as a volunteer in Burlington City Schools and later as an administrative assistant in the central office from which she retired. She was a lifelong learner, avid reader and enjoyed poetry. She was known and admired by her neighbors for her green thumb. Her yard was beautiful in the Spring. Ellen was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church where she was active in mission programs and directed the nursery for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Haywood Mincey; daughter, Betty Anne (Sidney) Shearin; a son David (Phyllis) Mincey; grandchildren, Ian Mincey, Laura Feimster, Margaret Cumberland, Elyse Reimer ; sisters, Edna Lee Matthews, Ginnie (Jack) Robbins; brothers, Fordyce Page, Embert Page and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Fulton Mincey; a sister, Doris Lupton; brothers, Fulton Page, Brenton Page and Ronald Page.
The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 13th at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Dale Steele. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
