Ellen Howell

BURLINGTON - Ellen Marie Pack Howell, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at ARMC, while surrounded by her family. Her compassion, loyalty, and extraordinary love will always be cherished.

Ellen was born on August 18, 1941, in Vesta, Virginia, to the late Nancy Lizabeth and Sanford Ervin Pack. She grew up in Vesta, Virginia, and became a first generation high school graduate of Patrick County High School in 1957. She faithfully attended West Burlington Church of God, Riverside Holiness Church, and The Upper Room.

Mee Maw lived her entire life in service to others. She was known for being an outstanding person, always putting others before herself. She treasured God and her family. Not only was she a dutiful caretaker to her seven children, but also to every child she encountered. No one who met her forgot her infectious passion for the Lord and her unwavering faith in his divine plan. She was never too busy to help, and was devoted to treating everyone equally. Her unconditional love and support led so many people to better themselves and the world around them. She never met a stranger, loved unconditionally, and saw the best in everyone.

Mee Maw leaves beautiful, loving memories with her family including her seven children - Sandra Cates of Elon, NC; Delores Long of Concord, NC; Calvin Howell and wife, Brandi of Burlington, NC; Barry Howell and wife, Jeanifer of Zebulon, NC; Amy Latta of Durham, NC; Stacie Boswell and husband, Neil of Raleigh, NC; and Brittany Howell of Winston-Salem; Sixteen grandchildren - Nicole and Nick Cates; Jason and Jordan Long; Taffany and Calvin Howell; Gloria Ellen and Samuel Howell; Christian Solis, and wife, Jenni; Asa and Kobe Latta; Tyler and Cailyn Boswell; Gannon White, Nathaniel and Brayden Harville; Six great-grandchildren - Payton Arroyo, Camille, Kingston, and Princeton Williamson, Nyle and Johnny Ray Solis; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Luther Howell; her baby, Jason Howell; her mother and father, Nancy Lizabeth and Sanford Ervin Pack; sister, Edith Conner; and uncle, Willie Hooker.

A service will be held to honor our mother, Mee Maw, and friend on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 11 a.m., at West Burlington Church of God, Flora Avenue, by the Rev. Olin Tatum. The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Hooker Family Cemetery in Vesta, VA. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, July 10, from 6-8 p.m.

Because of Mee Maw's passion for others, she requested that in lieu of flowers to please consider honoring her memory with a donation to missionaries and orphanages
